What DR System Configuration Is Required to Meet the Needs of Large-Scale Physical Examinations?

To support large-scale physical examination programs, a DR (Digital Radiography) system must prioritize high efficiency and high stability. This means the X-ray tube must have a high heat capacity to withstand continuous exposures, and the system should offer easy, streamlined operation. Based on industry standards and real-world clinical needs, the key configuration requirements are as follows:

Heat Capacity Requirements

• Anode Heat Capacity ≥ 300 kHU
The anode heat capacity measures the anode’s ability to absorb heat instantly. During high-speed electron bombardment, the anode target temperature can reach up to 2000°C. Heat capacity determines how much heat the target can absorb and store at once. Exceeding this limit may lead to target surface melting.

• Tube Housing Heat Capacity ≥ 1250 kHU
The tube housing heat capacity reflects the long-term heat dissipation capability of the entire tube assembly. With oil-cooling or air-cooling systems, the tube housing transfers heat away from the anode to prevent overheating and shutdown. Its design directly affects how long the system can operate continuously.

Supporting Performance Requirements

• High Power Output:
Generator power ≥ 65 kW, tube current ≥ 710 mA (e.g., PLX5500).
This ensures adequate image quality for obese patients or thick anatomical regions.

• Short Exposure Time:
Minimum exposure time ≤ 1 ms.
This is crucial for patients who cannot hold their breath—such as those with pneumonia, pneumoconiosis, or tuberculosis—helping avoid motion artifacts caused by chest movement.

Automation Features

  • Ceiling-mounted DR systems should support electric adjustments with one-click positioning (e.g., upright/lateral/supine views).
  • Detector auto-tracking to match SID and reduce manual adjustments.
  • Auto-centering function: the tube automatically aligns with the detector center without manual calibration (e.g., PLD7100).

Choosing Between Fixed and Mobile DR

Healthcare institutions may choose fixed or mobile DR systems based on budget and application scenarios. Fixed units are ideal for high-throughput examination rooms, while mobile DR can supplement temporary or flexible examination sites.
